1971 Riva Junior #599
Riva Junior #599 is a prime example of Shipyard Riva’s take on the open cockpit utility mahogany runabout, then so popular in the US. Introduced in 1966, the Junior was to be the replacement for the Super Florida. With a true walkaround cockpit, the Junior makes for a highly useful and comfortable boat. Aesthetically pleasing and spirited in performance, the Riva Junior had a highly successful production run of 626 boats. This Junior is one of thevery last series to be constructed. Enjoyed by many families as well as a good number of celebrities, Juniors are meant for pure fun, be it cruising, water skiing, swimming, or any other water sport.
Forward in the cockpit is a seat for 2, with storage beneath it. Mounted on the gunwales are sturdy mahogany hand rails, with each forward stanchion cleverly concealing an engine air intake. The aft seat for 3 has a storage area underneath, with the chrome water ski pole is stowed there as well when not in use.
The rear mahogany cover panel on the motor box is hinged to flip over aft, converting the aft seat into an ample sun pad area.
The optional Riva Bimini top is mounted to the cockpit side panels, and neatly folds up to be easily stowed under the dashboard.
With a very modern deep vee bottom providing a comfortable ride, and easy open seating, the Junior is a great lake boat, and quite good in open water.
Junior 599 now has an updated 350 CID Riva/Crusader motor, Edelbrock carburetor, and Pertronix electronic ignition, with very few fresh water hours running time since engine overhaul/upgrade. This provides a respectable and reliable top speed of 42 MPH and a range of 4 hours at a pleasant cruising speed.
The bottom panels have been correctly replaced and a full refinishing has been done. All repairs etc were completed in 2022.
Given it’s size, the Junior is easily stored and transported on it’scustom CTW tandem axle trailer.
